Web Services and Internet Business Directory - Cybercafes
The first cyber cafe location was in San Francisco in 1991 and since then millions of cybercafes all over the world have emerged. Typically, the cybercafe will charge per session of use or by the hour. Some will equip the store with printers, scanners and other helpful equipment and devices for customers. Many are also regular cafes that sell coffee, drinks and food.
One of the more interesting cybercafes was called CompuCafe in Helsinki, Finland which included a robotic beer seller.
A more recent take on the cyber cafe idea are Wi-Fi hotspots. These appear in regular cafe establishments as well as restaurants, airports, trains, hotels. Some hotspots are open networks, meaning anyone can freely connect to them without being charged, while others are closed networks, meaning they are password protected and require payment to access the Internet service.
An example of a larger Wi-Fi zone is Toronto, Ontario's "One Zone" provided by Toronto Hydro. Refered to as a municipal wireless network, One Zone is the largest of its kind in Canada. It covers 6 sq. km in the downtown core.
